For seventeen editions now, the Mostra de Cinema de Muntanya de Palma has been bringing the city a selection of the latest and best mountain films. This year, the Colonya Palma Muntanya Film Fest runs from 19 to 27 October, and on Sunday the 25th it stops at CineCiutat for a session of five films in which the mountain is a challenge, a refuge and also a threat.

The evening begins in the Basque Country with Tximista, by Jon Mendizábal Roa. A group of athletes sets out to rig a highline across the 1,359-metre void between two peaks of Gorbea, and the mountain ends up teaching them that true courage lies in humility before the forces of nature. Rock: Feminine Noun, by Patrícia Meschick and Larissa Corino, portrays a collective of women climbers, made by an all-female crew. Jaume Carrió signs Les imatges arribaren a temps, a short essay on loss and on the way we hold on to memories. La innocència, by Miki Duran, turns to suspense with a drive along a mountain road that becomes a nightmare. And closing the session is The Queen Swing, by Thibaut Marot, which follows Kate Kelleghan and Laura Pineau in Yosemite as they attempt the first female ascent of the Triple Crown.

We love this session because mountain cinema isn't only about summits. It's about trust, about fear, and about how we look at a landscape bigger than ourselves. Seventeen editions on, the mountain still has things to tell us. Come along!
