Sometimes films arrive at the wrong moment.
Not because they don’t interest us, but because the programme is limited, events pile up, festivals overlap, and there simply isn’t room for them at the time of release.
That’s why at CineCiutat we run Descobrint Cinema d’Estrena: special screenings to recover films we had very much in mind but couldn’t programme when they were first released. A second chance. With time. And with context.
This year’s first Descobrint Cinema d’Estrena is Sirat, a Balearic+ film directed by Ion de Sosa. We previously discovered Mamántula with him, and it left a strong impression on us. So when this new work arrived — leading to a Goya nomination for Best New Director — there was no hesitation.
We also like to activate these screenings with added context. On this occasion, the Friday 6 February at 7 pm screening will include an introduction by Cristina Gómez, Head of Production at the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Festival, followed by a post-screening discussion with Ion de Sosa (online) and Adrián Malagamba (in person).
Films that return when the time is right. And this time, we’re not letting it pass.
