Some films are suddenly everywhere, and nobody quite knows how it happened. Your cousin is talking about them, the radio is talking about them, so is that friend who never goes to the cinema. That is what happened with La bola negra, and we know who to blame.
Virginia Galán is Mallorcan, a friend of the house, and head of marketing at Elastica Films, the distributor of Los Javis' film. When La bola negra came back from Cannes with the Best Director award, Virginia's work was only just beginning: deciding how to tell people about a film before anyone has seen it, which poster, which trailer, which day, which cinemas.
This Friday, 9 October, at 3.25 pm, she comes home to tell us all about it. We will talk with her about marketing and distribution, the part of cinema that never appears in the opening credits and without which there would be nobody in the room. If you study film, communication or advertising, or if you are simply curious, this session is for you.
After the conversation, we screen La bola negra. That way you can judge for yourselves whether all the fuss was justified. We can already tell you it was.
Students (under 25), €4.50. General admission, €7.80.
Come along, and ask her to explain herself.
