We inaugurate the first Conversant amb… of the year by focusing on what often goes unnoticed: form.
We will screen “La misteriosa mirada del flamenco”, winner of the Best Film Award in Un Certain Regard (Cannes).
A queer western set in the Chilean desert in the early 1980s. An eleven-year-old girl, a family living on the margins, and a disease that —they say— is transmitted through a single glance. Violence, fear, and love unfold in a landscape where aesthetics do not merely accompany the story: they make it possible.
After the screening, we will talk with Pau Aulí.
A costume designer and art director, Pau Aulí approaches cinema through matter itself: the body, fabric, space, and color. He has collaborated with key figures in contemporary cinema, has been nominated several times for the Gaudí Awards, selected as a Berlinale Talents, and is a member of the European Film Academy. He also moves naturally between film, stage, and music.
We will discuss how a visual universe is built, the invisible decisions that sustain a film, and the moment when costume design stops being decoration and becomes narrative.
