In Conversation with Susana Ivorra: The Invitation
In Conversation with Susana Ivorra: The Invitation
15 September 2026

Cesc Gay imagined a couple who invite the upstairs neighbours to dinner, the ones you hear through the ceiling every night. It started as the stage play Los vecinos de arriba, then became the film Sentimental, and now Olivia Wilde has taken it to Hollywood with The Invite.

Wilde, who previously directed Booksmart and Don't Worry Darling, also stars. In The Invite, she and Seth Rogen play a married couple in crisis, while Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton are the kind of neighbours who never stop. The whole film is a single dinner, with four adults, too much wine and all the questions a long-term couple would rather not ask each other. It's a comedy about desire, routine and the things we leave unsaid, as funny as it is uncomfortable.

After The Drama, we talked with psychologist and sexologist Susana Ivorra about a couple on the verge of saying "I do." Now we're inviting her back for a new session of Conversant amb... to talk about what comes after: the years you can end up sharing a bed with someone, and desire once it no longer makes so much noise. Susana will introduce the film, and afterwards we'll hold a Q&A in the cinema. This time, the conversations seeping through the walls will be ours.

Thursday 16 October, 9:15 pm. Tickets here.

Descobrint Cinema is a CineCiutat project, made possible with the support of the Consell de Mallorca and the collaboration of Palma City Council and Impremta Bahia.
