Lucila (Anna Díaz), a 21-year-old, struggles to find her place in the world amidst family pressure, misogyny, and racism. Along with her younger brother, Diego, she travels to Spain to reunite with her mother, Isabel (Adriana Paz), who emigrated eight years earlier in search of a better future. Lucila's arrival is anything but peaceful. The circumstances she faces daily constantly remind her of her origins, for better and for worse. This burden awakens in Lucila a desire for independence, to live a life appropriate to her age, and to stop being a surrogate mother to her brother or merely surviving in low-paying jobs.
