Set in 1936, the story follows Don Gregorio as he dedicates himself to patiently sharing his wisdom with Moncho—covering everything from general knowledge, literature, and nature to even the subject of women. Yet, the looming political threat remains ever-present, particularly when Don Gregorio comes under attack for being deemed an enemy of the fascist regime. Consequently, a rift begins to form between the two friends, driven by the powerful forces of the surrounding context.
