At the end of the summer, Ulises (Jordi Mollà) arrives in a small town on the Spanish coast to work as a literature teacher at a local school. There, he meets Martina (Leonor Watling), a beautiful and sensual young woman who works with her parents at the guesthouse where Ulises is staying. The couple marries and has a son, but shortly thereafter, Ulises disappears at sea while fishing. Martina later remarries Alberto Sierra (Eduard Fernández), a wealthy builder.
